Another Hole In One!

If you heard a lot of squealing and excitement during our Thursday round this week, it was Marsha Schnirring and her foursome! Congratulations to Marsha for the hole in one on Hole No. 8! What an amazing group of golfers we have, that is the fourth hole in one this season. Pictured below is Marsha standing proudly on hole 8, and still beaming in the clubhouse with her foursome. (Notice she was playing with Kristen Obaranac, another 2026 Greendale hole in one winner!

Discover the History of Greendale Golf Course

Golfers, at the link below is a fun read originally written for the Rose Hill Civic Association by Carl Sell. It is posted on the Francionia History website. Sue Edwards came across it last year when doing a search for Greendale fees! Thank you Sue for sharing it! (Posting this for all to read has been on my to do list since last year…sometimes life gets in the way!)

The golf course was built in the mid 1970s. The article sheds light on the history of the drainage and irrigation issues. Hopefully the ongoing work will solve the continual issues. It was originally intended to be an 18 hole par 68 course (now par 70), and the ponds were created from storm water runoff from the surrounding community, and used to irrigate the course. It shows an old map of the course (wish it was more legible). In the Clubhouse lobby there is a framed picture of an old score card. I tried to photograph it to include here but the reflections on the glass made it illegible. Next time you are in the clubhouse, take a look.

Enjoy this bit of history and those of you who live in the Franconia area may enjoy information about other sites in the community on the Franconia History page.

Hole in One on 14!

Congratulations to Mae Kiehl for her hole in one today on Hole 14. It was witnessed by me, Greta and Deborah. It was hit straight to the left side of the green and followed the downslope toward the flag, disappearing into the hole! THIS, in addition to a Birdie chip-in on 12! Wow!
