Golfers, at the link below is a fun read originally written for the Rose Hill Civic Association by Carl Sell. It is posted on the Francionia History website. Sue Edwards came across it last year when doing a search for Greendale fees! Thank you Sue for sharing it! (Posting this for all to read has been on my to do list since last year…sometimes life gets in the way!)
The golf course was built in the mid 1970s. The article sheds light on the history of the drainage and irigation issues. Hopefully the ongoing work will solve the continual issues. It was originally intended to be an 18 hole par 68 course (now par 70), and the ponds were created from storm water runoff from the surrounding community and used to irrigate the course. It shows an old map of the course (wish it was more legible). In the Club House lobby there is a framed picture of an old score card. I tried to photograph it to include here but the reflections on the glass made it illegible. Next time you are in the clubhouse, take a look.
Enjoy this bit of history and those of you who live in the Franconia area may enjoy information about other sites in the community.
