2017 Awards and 2018 News

Thank you to Kathi Pierce, Ingrid Tomasek and Judy Erickson for a wonderful luncheon!   Thank you to Joan Tadlock for some great photos!  The luncheon was well attended, door prizes were abundant (thanks to all who solicited donations) and 16 people played golf afterwards on the beautiful Mount Vernon Country Club Course.

2017 Awards and League Championship Results.  Congratulations to all who received awards and recognition at the luncheon; click here to see the list. Scores for all players in the championship are now posted on the Schedule & Results page for September 28 (date of the final round). Included are reports that show all gross and net scores with detail. Members who still have money to pick-up include: Lucinda Audey,  Kathy Chandler, Susan Crawford, Bonnie Firestone, Anita Gardner, Michelle Moldenhauer, Tania Richards, Tracy Szczepaniak, and Anne Turcol. You will be notified of next pick-up opportunity.

December 14 Holiday Party. Mark your calendars for the GWGA white-elephant holiday party hosted by Carey Durham.  You will be receiving electronic invitations and more details later, so keep an eye on your email.

The 2018 Board will remain the same as this year.  Kathi encouraged people to train next season for 2019 jobs, especially tournament chair and sign up coordinator.

New in 2018: January Membership meeting.  The meeting will be January 18, 1p.m. At the Kingstowne Library. Send agenda topics to Lucinda or Kathi for anything you want addressed at the meeting.  Kathi also asked for inputs on what members like most about our league, what we should not change, as well as what members like least about the league that needs changing.

2018 League Championship Changes.  Eileen provided results of the championship committee that met to make improvements for 2018.  The committee met for 2 hours and discussed many topics.  Members present for the meeting:  Eileen Ruzicka, Michelle Moldenhauer, Susan Foulds, Sally Reams, Lynn Smith, Betsy Triplet, and  Ruth Coakley.  All flights were represented. Summary of major changes are as follows:

Senior League Champions (gross and net) will be added.  The list of eligible players will be sorted by birthday and divided in half.  The older group will be eligible for the new titles.  The younger half will be eligible for League Champions (gross and net).

Tournament will be shortened to two weeks (two scores added together) and contests will be held on the tournament days.  The tournament will be played in late September or early October, after aeration.

Most Accurate Drive will be added to the contests.

Maximum handicap for any golfer playing in the championship rounds will be a 40.2, in accordance with USGA.

Other championship topics were discussed, to remain as in past:

Eligibility requirement will remain 50% of the playable rounds prior to the championship.

Foursomes and tee times will be determined by the tournament chair.

Results will not be posted or announced until the Awards Luncheon.

Tee Box changes 2018.  Peter Kim announced that next year we will see work begin on moving some tee boxes forward; to include the boxes on holes 4, 5 and 7, 9, 11 and 16.  There will also be some work done on the sand bunkers.
