2022 GWGA Awards and Other News!

GWGA golfers, if you missed the GWGA luncheon at Springfield Country Club, you missed something special! It was a gorgeous Fall day for 18 holes of golf on a beautiful golf course, followed by a terrific lunch.  There were door prizes galore, a creative and hilarious Treasurer’s report delivered by Anne Turcol, and a new GWGA Red Stake Award presented by Kathi, our President to Terri!

Big thanks to Kathi, the Board and the luncheon organizers, Carey, Wanda and Gary.  Joan organized door prizes and we had so many that everyone there received one!  Many of your fellow golfers worked to make the luncheon a success.  We thank those who supplied door prizes and the yummy dessert selections.

Thank you Margaret and Sue for all the work you did this year compiling scores, calculating seasonal awards, preparing the envelopes of money and presenting the awards!  Thank you also to those who took turns closing out the day on Thursdays following golf each week.

Some great luncheon photos were taken by Gary and can be found on our website, click here.

Scores from the championship rounds are now visible in Leaderboard. Login, scroll down and click on “Results”; then scroll down to find “championship”; then click “Go” and you can see all the scores for each round, gross and net results.

Fall business meeting minutes (password protected) will be posted on our website here when completed.  If you don’t know the password to the Member Only part of the website, you can email Sally and ask for it.

A GWGA holiday party will be December 8 at Carey’s home, watch for an email with details.

The 2023 Volunteer Sign-up sheets will be available again at the holiday party and the list can be found in the Member only part of the website, click here. Everyone is expected to to sign up to help our league. There are at least 60 assorted tasks, many are not at all difficult so don’t be shy, please help! For example, like to cook or eat? Sign up to bring food you buy or make to a shotgun event; or bring a dessert for next year’s luncheon. Like to shop? Sign up to help gather prizes.

GWGA NEWSLETTER

Golfers, we are 2/3 they way through our golf season. Below is for info and includes some dates you might want to put on your calendar if you haven’t already.

GREENDALE AERATION – Monday AUG 29 (weather permitting).

PLEASE REPAIR YOUR DIVOTS! It is each golfer’s responsibility to repair divots on the green.  Fresh divots are being found by golfers playing behind you! It’s not fair to leave your divots to be repaired by the group behind you. Please look for your divots and fix them properly. If your foursome finishes early, or if you are a threesome waiting for the group in front of you, please spend time fixing any divots and ball marks you see.  If you don’t know how to fix a divot, ask someone in your foursome to show you.

CHAMPIONSHIP, SEP 15, 22 (29th is rain date). Check your eligibility status, you need to have recorded 50% of the playable rounds before Sep 15 to be eligible to play. You can see your rounds in Leaderboard, scroll down and click on “My Game”. You have to make sure you are only counting 2022 league rounds. Also, the tournament chairs are giving credits to those who signed up for the games that were officially cancelled for weather. There are only 3 more Thursdays left before the Championship. Handicaps for the championship will be the same for both rounds. Handicap ranges will be set on SEP 1. More info concerning the tournament will come from the tournament chairs. If you have any questions contact Margaret or Sue.

Reminder for the GWGA 4th of July social event this coming Monday, 2 p.m. at the home of Carey Durham, our GWGA Vice President. This is a fun event, come and get to know your golf sisters better! If you have not signed up but would like to come, please contact Carey so she knows how many people to expect. Food is being prepared so it’s important to know how many to expect. Bring your own beverage and your bathing suit if you wish to cool down in the pool.

Captain’s Choice Shotgun was rained out and Rescheduled for July 21, 7:20 a.m., same time as previously scheduled. Plan to stay for lunch and prizes, as previously advertised, lunch paid for by GWGA. Because the league canceled the shotgun last week, those who had signed up to play last week will receive a participation credit toward championship eligibility.

Those who went to Rock Harbor Golf Club for the overnight had a blast. Many are hoping to go back there to play the courses again. They are fun, unusual courses that provide a buffer between a quarry and the nearby community. Located on the edge of the quarry, the courses have dramatic elevation changes and hundreds of huge limestone boulders (from the quarry) providing scenic pathways and challenging holes. With rules relaxed, many were taking mulligans to meet the challenges! Photos have been posted on our website click here for quick slideshow.

Be ready for the Penn National sign up, which will be emailed to you in August. Roommates are required at this venue so find a roommate before the sign up comes out. Dates, cost and other details can be found here.

What’s in Leaderboard besides the Tee Time sign up? If using your phone, scroll down to the very bottom. Click on “Results” to see tournament results of all tournaments played. Click on “Reports” to see your Ringer score (your best score this season on each hole…..which hole do you need to work on??). You can also see your birdies and chip-ins. Click on “My Game” to see all your Greendale scores for this season.

If the GWGA newsletter you received by email gets lost in your thousands of emails and there was something in it you wanted to access, you can easily find all newsletters on the front page of our website. In your favorite search engine (like Google) just type in something like “greendale women’s golf, Alexandria” and you’ll find our site!! Try it! Open the site and the newsletter is on the main page.

It’s a duty of all golfers to stay following the round until the scores are calculated, the card is signed by all and the scores are entered into leaderboard.  If you cannot add numbers in your head, use a calculator, or volunteer for one of the other related duties.  If you don’t have a phone with you to enter scores, you may borrow one or use the laptop in the clubhouse.  No one is exempt from these duties. The duties can be split up within a foursome, 2 score card keepers during the round, 2 who calculate the scores and reconcile the 2 cards, and 2 to enter the scores in leaderboard.
